China Abolishes Her One-Child Per Couple Policy

China is set to allow couples have two children by abolishing the one-child per couple policy that was instituted to control population growth in the 1970s.

A report from China's state-run news agency, Xinhua, says that the "one couple, two children" policy is "a proactive response to the issue of an aging population."

According to the report "to promote a balanced growth of population, China will
continue to uphold the basic national policy of population control and improve its strategy on population development."

The country with over 1.3 billion people put the policy of one child per couple to control population growth in the 1970s.

Recall that in late 2013, the country announced that couples could have two children if one of the parents was an only child.
