DPR Sells Fuel For Free

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), made Conoil and Total filling stations to dispense fuel worth two thousand naira each to motorists at Ikorodu Road for free.

This was a result of hoarding of  petroleum products by these retail outlets, following the instructions by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu,  that any fueling station caught hoarding fuel would be made to give out the product free of charge to the public.
A joint taskforce headed by DPR Lagos Zonal Operation Controller, Ihekwumere Uto, in conjunction with top management of the department embarked on an aggressive surveillance of retail outlets.
In a chat with the Executive Director of Conoil, Mr. Adebiyi, and his team, the DPR mandated them to make sure they make petroleum products available to the public in all their stations.
Instructing that Conoil should not load less than 80 trucks per day, failure to adhere to this would lead to complete closure.
This is clear indication that management and staff of DPR has risen to the challenge of regulating petroleum product’s pricing and distribution in Nigeria.
Although, DPR, might not be legally backed to sell products that are hitherto been purchased at a price, for free. The message is that petroleum products marketers should make the product available to Nigerians, at the approved government regulated pump price nationwide.
