Kidnapping Rises In Congo DR


Kidnappings have recently increased in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo with at least 175 people taken hostage.

According to a statement issued by Human Right Watch HRW, armed groups tortured and whipped hostages, and demand ransom ranging between 200 dollars and 30.000 dollars.
Report says that twenty of the hostages were local and international aid workers to the country.
Meanwhile, the alarming increase in kidnappings is a grave threat to the people of eastern Congo that Congolese authorities should urgently establish a special police unit to help rescue the victims. The Human Right Organization HRW said.
